Game Theory

This interactive artwork– entitled 'Game Theory'– serves as a platform for the exploration of situations that appear bounded but are in reality open-ended. The sculptural game board evokes well-known games such as Candyland and Hues and Cues but the viewer is asked to create their own set of interactions and their own rules.

The artwork comes to life in the interaction. The installation, like most boardgames, requires at least one and usually more than one, enthusiastic participant. It hopes to pose the question—given the invitation, what rules would you create or alter for yourself?

The track-like game board references both the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indianapolis' long-time role as host for the table-top gaming convention, GenCon. The work references Indian-origin dice based games such as Pachisi and the 3d printed game pieces feature rotated squares, found in the geometry of Indian temple architecture.
